You must be wondering why it is important to be a child to stay fit. So let us tell you that in old age or if you want to keep old age happy and away from diseases, then make a habit of getting vaccinated like children.

Generally, people believe that vaccination is necessary only in childhood to prevent diseases. but it's not like that. After getting older and even in old age, our health needs some vaccines.

In a report released on World Pneumonia Day this year, it was revealed that the number of patients suffering from diseases caused by Pneumococcus bacteria in the country is increasing. Pneumococcus can cause pneumonia, ear infection (deafness), meningitis, bronchitis, sinus etc. Millions of people die every year due to being infected with this bacteria.

According to the figures of Indian Journal of Community Medicine, this bacterium kills 4 to 7 lakh children every year, whose age is less than 5 years. According to Dr. KK Pandey, a pulmonologist at Galaxy Hospital, every person should be vaccinated once every 5 years to prevent pneumococcal infection. The risk of these diseases can be reduced by 80 percent with vaccination .

Actually, pneumococcal diseases are not easy to cure and they are fatal. Sometimes even after the illness is cured, there is a risk of them happening again.

Which people face more danger

- People under 2 years and above 60 years of age.

- Smokers or people who smoke. People around it are at greater risk.

- People living in areas with high pollution.

- People who have more dirt in their house.

- Those who have asthma or any respiratory disease.

- Diabetes patients

- COPD patients

- heart patients

- Drinking alcohol or getting infected with HIV

- People whose immunity is weak.

What are the preventive measures

- Regardless of age, get a pneumococcal vaccine every 5 years

- Take care of cleaning indoors and outdoors

- Do not allow moisture inside the house. There should be no pollution in the house. Take care of ventilation.

Dr. KK Pandey said that people do not know that pneumococcal diseases are common in old age, but they can be avoided to a great extent by getting vaccinated . Immunization can increase the immunity of the elderly and they are also avoiding many dangerous diseases and infections from it. But for this, timely vaccination is necessary.
