Vaccination in children is necessary to prevent deafness

According to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), timely de-vaccination can prevent deafness in children.

About 5 percent of the world's population is not well heard. There are 32 million children in them. This problem is present in about 6.3 percent of the Indian population and this number includes about 5 million children. According to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), most of these cases can be prevented by timely proper vaccination, controlling noise pollution and the use of some medicines.

Deafness is mainly of two types. During birth, due to noise pollution and other problems, there is deafness of the vein. Behavioral deafness occurs due to social and economic reasons, such as lack of hygiene and treatment. This increases the work infection and can also cause deafness.

IMA President Dr. K. K. Aggarwal said that it is a matter of concern that in the last few years, hearing loss of infants and young people is coming down and such cases are continuously increasing. This problem is not easily caught in infants, so no one even pays attention to it.

He said that the need of the hour is to educate people and create awareness, so that the loss is recognized early and appropriate steps are taken. Apart from congenital defects, hearing loss can also occur due to external causes. It is important that the noise level in the environment is kept low and health services are maintained properly.

Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) is a medical examination for early detection of hearing loss after birth. India still lacks a system that can identify congenital hearing problems in infants.

Dr. Aggarwal further explained that lack of communication, lack of awareness and lack of understanding about the importance of early investigation and initiative can be blamed in case of hearing loss. Delay in identifying this condition can affect the activities of language learning, social interaction, emotional development and learning in children. Hearing screening of newborns is an essential procedure that must be done.

Some ideas:

- Do not let any blow or injury to the ear. This can cause severe damage to the ear drum, which reduces hearing ability.

- Make sure that the baby does not get water in the ears during bathing.

- Having a little doubt, the infant should be shown to the doctor.

- Never put a sharp object in your baby's ears.

Keep children away from loud music or other sounds, as this may affect their hearing.

- Ensure that children are vaccinated to be protected from infections such as measles, rubella and meningitis.
